Perth, on the ‘Swan River’, is a modern city with museums, colonial style buildings, skyscrapers and gardens. One can take a leisurely stroll through Perth city, which is often called ‘the friendly city’. ‘Kings Park’ (botanic gardens) is easily accessible by cat-bus (free) from the city, where you can enjoy the panoramic views over Perth and the river. The harbour city of Fremantle has markets and lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. The ‘Freemantle Markets’ are housed in an 1897 Victorian Market Hall on the corner of the so-called ‘Cappucino Strip’. You can reach ‘Rottnest Island’ via ferry from either Fremantle or Perth.

To the beautiful ‘Swan Valley’ with its many wineries, restaurants and breweries, it will take you about 35min by car.

‘The Pinnacles’, wind-carved limestone formations, is a paradise for photographers and nature lovers. It is best to get there in the early morning to beat the crowds. From August to October you can see the famous wildflowers of Western Australia.

The ‘Wave Rock’, a granite cliff, 15 metres high and 110 metres long, is near Hyden. The shape has been caused by weathering and water erosion, which has undercut the base and left a rounded overhang, like a wave. Close by are more rock formations like ‘the Breakers’, ‘Hippo’s Yawn’ and ‘The Humps’. A few aboriginal paintings are in ‘Mulka’s Cave’.
